Heiligendamm is a German seaside resort founded in 1793. It is the oldest seaside spa in continental Europe. Heiligendamm is part of the town Bad Doberan in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The healing powers of the water are boosted further by the climate's health benefits. A seaside break here complete with thalassotherapy can be improved even further with walks in the great outdoors, a visit to the conservation area and special treatments at the Bad Doberan spa clinic. The air is low in dust and nicely humid, which anyone who suffers from respiratory problems or allergies is sure to be happy to hear. As we said this resort was the first spa town in Germany, and in the 1800s, the aristocracy flocked here to enjoy the health giving air and water, and generally to see and be seen.
Often called the “White Town by the Sea”, the resort has managed to retain its elegance, and spa facilities are still very much a part of the offer. Like most of the fashionable resorts of the era, the Grand Hotel is very grand – a gorgeous white wedding cake of a bulding, set on the beach, with stunning views out to the Baltic Sea, a Michelin starred restaurant, sushi bar, and another historic restaurant as well. The spa facilities in the hotel are brilliant, as you might expect given the town’s history and the traditional German love of spas.
